What would you miss if your house burned down?

One day, a lady from a small nearby language group, called the Kambaira (kam-BY-ra) people, came into the Summer Institute of Linguistics Papua New Guinea (PNG) Office, with her granddaughter. She was an unfortunate victim of some local fighting, which is not uncommon, and her thatched roof, bush material house was burned down by people from an enemy village, even though she was not involved in the dispute, just a “soft target”.

She said she wanted some help. The Highlands Regional Director, Terry Cirre (“Sirry”), thought she would be asking for money to replace clothes, blankets, furniture and so on. But no! All she said was, “Could you please replace my AudioBible, which was melted in the fire? I am missing that more than anything else! I want to be able to hear God’s Word again in my own language. Can you please help me?”

As you can imagine, Terry was delighted to be able to give her a new AudioBible.  She cried with joy when she received it.  She knew the truth of Jesus’ words, “Heaven and Earth will pass away.  My words will never pass away!” (Mark 13:31).

Thank you for helping us help others like this!  “As you did it to the least of these followers of mine, you did it for me!” Matthew 25:40.

Above all, please keep praying for more PNG people to come to know eternal life in Christ through His Word!
