Holy Spirit burns in young hearts
Recently my wife Kathy, along with our daughter Emily, was invited by LCA International Mission to teach at the women’s ministry conference in Myanmar.
I also had the blessing of visiting this beautiful country with my son Adam and friend Karl Rau.
While the women were at the conference, we were invited by Pastor James San Aung of Myanmar Lutheran Church (MLC) to a presentation about his church’s history. We were alerted to many needs, including for an orphanage and a house/worship centre, lap-top computers for theological education, resources for the seminary library, and teaching and IT support.
We also met children orphaned as a result of the 2008 cyclone which killed 140,000 people. It was a privilege to watch the boys respond by buying 250 kilograms of rice for the children and giving money to assist with the repair of bamboo houses.
Our youth are already following the Holy Spirit’s lead. When we returned to Adelaide they began networking with congregations and friends, seeking opportunities to partner in the gospel with the MLC.
I praise God for the courage to serve he has given these youth, as they embody the spirit of Jesus’ words in Matthew 19:14: ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs’.
If you would like to consider the opportunity to serve as a volunteer in mission, serving in practical ways, teaching English, teaching in the seminaries and institutions of our partner churches, or in local churches, you are invited to phone Nevin on (08) 8267 7300 or email nevin.nitschke@lca.org.au.
